Recently I've discovered that the French Foreign Ministry and French Ministry of Education combine to fund and coordinate a program whereby 1,500 Americans per year can teach English in France. The French government provides a work visa, pays a stipend of approx. 900 euros per month, and includes the teachers in the French national health insurance.
